A lot has changed in the five years since the previous version of this page was written. At that time there were no off-the-shelf motherboards suitable for use in a battery powered portable design, and power management capabilities in Linux and FreeBSD were just getting started. Now we have a nice range of alternatives, and building a prototype has become feasible.
To foster the hardware design process we have created a new forum on our SourceForge site, called Open Slate Client Plateform. We encourage everyone with an interest in hardware to participate.
