Interesting facts......South Point on the Big Island is the southern most point of the United States. 40% of the state of Hawaii is covered by forests. There are 2,500 kinds of plants found only in Hawaii and 1,400 species of flowering plants including orchids, plumeria, hibiscus, bougainvillea, gardenias and poinsettias. Mount Waialeale on Kauai is one of the wettest places on earth with an average annual rainfall of 12,192 mm or 480 inches! Perhaps that's why it's so sunny throughout the rest of the state. Our highest point is atop Mauna Kea on the Big Island with an elevation of 4,205 meters or 13,796 feet. Hawaii ranks 43rd of the 50 United States in terms of area with 28,313 sq km or 10,932 sq mi. |
