The genesis of a legend

·  This section of the Ancient Mariners Web was generated after the publication of a “best seller” book Blind Man’s Bluff by Sherry Sonntag,  a brilliant young creative journalist  and Charles Drew, an experienced but aging investigative reporter. It replaced an earlier web subset Craven's US Navy world In the next few months these subsets will be melded together to make a coherent package in the web subset entitled Cravens World As with any best seller, the authors focused on a few protagonists and built them into characters representative of the sum of the individuals who were responsible for the acts and missions described in the book.  One of these individuals was named John Craven. His name is my name too and now, whenever I go out I hear the people shout “John Piña Craven – Blind Man’s Bluff”  :

The John Craven of Blind Man's Bluff has been featured on sixty minutes and on Blind Man's Bluff shows on the history and discovery channels. He is a virtual reality creature. The real Craven is no more and no less than a sucessful Project Manager. Institutions, organizations and individuals will commission me to lead a project with a specific mission and on occasion I will initiate a project on my own. After the publication of Blind Man's Bluff many of my colleagues encouraged me to write a book that only a participant could write to tell the story as it should be told without compromising national security. I therefore commissioned myself to produce such a book as rapidly as possible, to have it published by a publisher such as Simon & Schuster, without violating the constraints placed upon me by security clearances. The Silent War is the result of that project. The repercussions have already begun. There is not time to respond to each member of the public who, for better or for worse. wants to explore these repercussions with me. So I resort to the new means of interactive global communication. Send me an email including, if you wish your digitalized picture or picture you would like to see on the web together with questions and commentaries. I will do my best to respond by updates of this page. It is my intent to update it at least once a month. For example at 1500 today (9/3/2001). I will be interviewed by Fujii Television of Japan. They will question me about the book, about the Ehime Maru and possibly Kursk. I do not know what I will be asked or what I will say. If you see it send comments and I may or may not address them in the next update depending on time and circumstance.
