Come to the Patisserie in Kahala in Hawaii for Coffee
and Croissants
The cheerful hard working manager hails from
Germany. She will prepare you a breakfast of bacon, healthy toast
and eggs with one hand, holding the telephone with the other and
using body language and gesture to supervise the young sales
personnel. Starting at 0700 the "regulars" arrive bearing books or
newspapers to establish privacy. Being Kahala, celebrities are
there from time to time but this is no place for reinforcing ego.
A few couples or trios are part of the regulars but for the most
part interaction is with greetings, chit chat and light banter.
Here depicted is one of the "regulars". She often arrives with
jogging pals on Saturday or Holiday mornings but who she is we do
not know. Another regular is leaving after her morning coffee.
The CHC communicant at the
Pattiserie has discovered that he and she once worked at the
National City Bank of New York at 55 Wall Street in 1943. It is
these little links and coincidences that form bonds of recognition
that tell those who frequent this delightful cafe that they are
part of the Common Heritage Community. For a few moments, without
ego, with out comparison, without attachment, they can participate
in private thought and at the same time enjoy the afferent
reinforcement of breaking bread and breaking fast in an empathetic
communion with community. Oh yes - a few tables are on the side
walk and the photographer has spotted a customer who is observing
with merriment the formation of the photographers essay.
Her minutes of private quiet
contentment of the morning are transformed into a rare moment of
human bliss as revealed by her radiant smile. "We long to hear each
others music sweet - just knowing that we're family our songs
repeat."
