March comes in like a lion. At sea, great waves like those
depicted by Hokosai, engulf the terrified mariner who, setting out in
search of reward, finds a condition of peril. No mariner, however
skilled, should be unaware that there is a sea condition with which he
cannot cope. The Psalmist has recognized this in his 'Psalm for the
first of March
Oh wind if
winter come can spring be far behind and will March go out like a lamb.
The mariner will now recognize that there will always be somewhere,
sometime a calm sea as depicted in this painting of the Cote de
Nord. The Psalmist has also recognized this in a "Psalm for the 31st of
March.

An essay on The peril of Peril and
the transience of 'pacem in maribus' will
soon appear in the lecture series. If the
reader has any suggestions or
contributions for other philosophic connotations asociated with March
