URANUS NEPTUNE EARTH MARS SATURN JUPITER VENUS PLUTO
MOON (mercury)
Within the Universe as far as we can
see and as far as we can ascertain there is only one watery planet in
orbit around a sun. Miracle of miracles, this planet by virtue of its
orbit and its rotation once every twenty four hours is able to count in a
binary sytem of nights and days and a quaternary sytem of summer, fall,
winter and spring. It is therby capable of sustaining those replicating
objects that we call living organisms. As these organisms evolved into
intelligent beings they needed measurements of space and time in order
live and move and have their being on this rotating sphere. There are a
surfeit of non-fluid objects to serve as rulers but nature had to provide
the planetary system as a giant heavenly clock. The orbit of the earth
measures the year, the rotation measures the hours. When coupled with the
changing position of the planets humanity learned to navigate the seven
seas. The red shift of Venus taught humanity about relativity and the
black body radiation from each planet has taught us the temperature and
music of the Universe. The moon depicted here as surrogate for mercury
gave us the concept of the month leaving only the seven day week to the
ingenuity of homo sapiens.
