MESSAGE FROM GOVERNOR BENJAMIN J. CAYETANO
TO THE COMMON HERITAGE CORPORATION
January 30, 1999

On behalf of the people of the State of Hawaii, I send my greetings, and warmest aloha, to all who are attending today's first anniversary celebration of the Birth of the Blue-Green Revolution at the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority on the Kona Coast.

The State of Hawaii is proud of the great progress made in recent years, through partnerships between the private and public sectors, in exploring innovative ways to utilize its unique marine resources. The Common Heritage Corporation (CHC), with its pioneer efforts in using deep ocean water for agricultural purposes, has assumed a key role in assuring a strong future for Hawaii in this rapidly developing field.

The development of high technology industries is critical for the economic well being of our state. The work of CHC -- under the inspired direction of its president, John Craven -- will help to revitalize the economy of the Big Island, and continue to advance the frontiers of cold water vegetable and fish production. These efforts are also a tribute to the visionary legacy of our late Senator Richard Matsuura, who coined the term, Blue-Green Revolution.

May all of you enjoy this day of celebration on the Kona Coast, and may the Common Heritage Corporation enjoy great prosperity and success as we move into the twenty-first century.

Aloha,

BENJAMIN J. CAYETANO
