THE SILENT WAR
Revised August 25, 2005
Original Title
This section of the Ancient Mariners Web was generated after the publication of a “best seller”
book Blind Man’s Bluff by Sherry Sonntag,a brilliant young creative journalist and Charles Drew, an experienced but aging investigative reporter. As with any best seller, the authors focused on a few protagonists and built them into characters representative of the sum of the individuals who were responsible for the acts and missions described in the book.
One of these individuals was named John Craven. His name is my name too and now, whenever I go out I hear the people shout “John Piña Craven – Blind Man’s Bluff”
After the publication of Blind Man's Bluff many of my colleagues encouraged
me to write a book that only a participant could write to tell the story as it
should be told without compromising national security. I therefore commissioned
myself to produce such a book as rapidly as possible, to have it published by
a publisher such as Simon & Schuster, without violating the constraints placed
upon me by security clearances. The Silent War is the result of that project.
Already it’s past is prologue(9/3/2001). I was interviewed by Fujii Television of Japan. They asked
questions, about the book, about the Ehime Maru
and Kursk. Then 9/11/2001 America lost its innocence
see Dies Irae, Dies Illa . It was then that the Ancient Mariner realized that a cycle of history that began with “Remember Pearl Harbor” was about to repeat. to relive the history of his youth when America As this was reeling and re-reeling through his brain that strange mental phenomenon called déjà vu unfolded in the form of the life history of an ancestor Captain John Craven of the United States Navy. That now vivid tale of the Ancient Mariner began on January 25, 1898 with the loss of the Battleship Maine.
